Procedure for Rotator Cuff Repair Surgery

This type of repair depends on different factors regarding the type of tear, age, activity level, general health, and surgeon knowledge about a particular procedure. The surgeon will talk with you about the most suitable procedure to meet your individual health needs.

Techniques mainly used for rotator cuff repair include:

  • Open repair
  • Arthroscopic repair
  • Mini-open repair
  1. Open Repair – The operation of an open surgical cut is performed when the tear is severe or composite. The surgeon separates single shoulder muscles and cuts the shoulder to reach the torn tendon.
  2. Arthroscopic Repair – In this procedure, a small incision is made. At the time of arthroscopy, the surgeon inserts a tiny camera known as an arthroscope into the shoulder joint to perform the surgery. Other small surgical instruments are used to repair the torn rotator cuff. The repair fluid drains from the shoulder. An antiseptic bandage is used to keep the shoulder muscles in place during the healing process, and a sling is provided.
  3. MINI-Open Repair – This repair is performed by a small cut. This cut is generally 3 to 5 cm long. During the tendon repair, the surgeon observes the shoulder formation directly in front of the monitor.
